Our Mission 

WINGS

The mission of the Wings Student Art Gallery is to provide a venue for College of DuPage art students to pursue cultural practices, which reflect the ideas and concepts of contemporary art. The gallery offers students the opportunity to exhibit their artwork and to learn and practice aspects of curation and professional gallery operation. 

TECHETERA

Techcetera Gallery is dedicated to celebrating and understanding the interdependence of technology, media and design in a culturally diverse, global society. The gallery will feature the work of COD’s technical students and will help prepare them to excel in their creative and innovative careers.

Objectives

• To facilitate the curation of challenging and innovative exhibitions in a professional environment 
• To provide visual art students with the opportunity to learn and practice professional gallery operation 
• To provide visual art students with the opportunity to critique exhibitions 
• To extend the range of art experiences available to students 
• To serve as an educational tool for the college and surrounding community

Exhibition Policies and Procedures 

Exhibition proposals are selected and scheduled by the CCMA staff, members include art faculty and the gallery director. Current students and recent alumni from the visual arts areas at COD may submit proposals for review. A visual arts faculty member must support the proposal. 

Proposals are reviewed twice a year and exhibition slots are awarded for each academic semester.

CCMA staff reserves the right to edit works that do not follow the proposal or the theme, remove works that are incomplete, a danger to viewers, or do not fit the concept or space. CCMA staff has the right to cancel or postpone exhibitions if found necessary. The Wings Gallery reserves the right to photograph or document artworks related to exhibitions for publicity or archival purposes. 

Guidelines to Exhibiting 

PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS

Press Release information and digital images should be submitted to the Gallery Director at least one month prior to the exhibition. 

The Gallery will produce posters for each exhibition that will be posted around campus (and beyond if possible) prior to the opening date of the exhibition. Email announcements within the College will be sent and press releases to local papers and venues. 

Exhibition Installation

Each exhibitor or exhibiting group is encouraged to plan, install, and de-install their own exhibit in coordination with the faculty sponsor, Gallery Director, and the gallery’s student workers. Any specific plans for installation (pedestals, shelving, painting, additions to walls, ceiling, or floor, electrical requirements, special equipment etc.) must be approved before installation. 

Exhibitors will be responsible for finding display props, pedestals, tables or shelving. Consult with a faculty advisor for exhibition needs. The gallery will provide basic hanging supplies and tools. 

Exhibitors are responsible for providing a written list of titles and materials of all artworks and a price list (if work is for sale). The installation should be completed and the gallery ready to open on the exhibition opening date at the start of the gallery’s open hours. Typically, a week or so is planned to change over exhibits. 

Exhibitors need to be aware of dates and deadlines. Art cannot be removed from the gallery before the end of the exhibition. All artworks and equipment must be removed from the gallery within a few days after the exhibit closes (if a show ends Friday, pick-up of artwork is Monday or Tuesday). 

Exhibitors must comply with safety regulations required by the College of DuPage. The gallery staff will enforce certain installation restrictions. The Gallery Director reserves the right to close the doors on any exhibition where safety regulations are not followed until the violation is rectified. 

Reception 

The CCMA will organize the reception and provide trays of cookies. The reception date and time should be coordinated with the gallery director at least one month before the opening. Exhibitor(s) should be in the gallery, available to visitors during reception hours.

College and Community Artist in Residence (CAIR) 

Overview for Project and Call for Entry:

College of DuPage visual art programs will invite artists to apply for a residency working with our students. Applying artists will propose a detailed timeline for their residency project. The residency spans a 2 to 8 week period between September 2 and November 17, 2025. Proposals must provide details about how the residency and subsequent project will engage our student body, including an explanation of how the project could potentially include broader forms of community engagement. The proposal should explain how the artists will work closely with one or more COD classes for a minimum of 6 hours over the course of the residency. While residents will be working primarily with art students, potential interdisciplinary connections and research across other fields of study are encouraged. 

The selected artists will give an initial artist lecture to introduce themselves and their work to the students and will be required to engage with the college community for a minimum of 6 hours per residency through open studios, workshops, studio visits, or another proposed activity. In special circumstances some of this collaboration may be completed via Zoom, but quality time spent with students should be evident in the proposal. The artists will close the residency with a proposed event, lecture, or exhibition to share the work accomplished during their residency. 

Program Goals: 

• to support class and program objectives through hands-on work, experience working with professional artists, the opportunity to participate in an artist residency and selection committee, and skill-building opportunities that may translate to student portfolios, applications, or resumes 
• to increase learning and mentoring opportunities for students to engage with professional artists over a sustained period of time to produce a body of work
• to support artists in collaborative, community projects that reinforce our institutional missions related to excellence, diversity, and community participation; “community” includes but is not limited to students, faculty, staff at COD, residents of Glen Ellyn, DuPage County, Community College District 502, or Chicagoland
• to support the artist-in-residence with time, space, and funds to produce a personal project
  

Location Description: 

College of DuPage (COD) is located in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, 25 miles west of downtown Chicago, and accessible through public transportation. With over 21,000 students enrolling each semester, our college is one of the largest in Illinois. Our nationally accredited visual arts programs include Animation and Motion Picture Television, Architecture, Fashion, Fine Arts (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture ceramics, small metals, digital art, and time based media), Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Photography.  The McAninch Art Center is home to the Cleve Carney Museum of Art (which recently hosted Frida Kahlo: Timeless and Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop and will be hosting Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World, Artworks from the Chiossone Collection in Summer 2025) as well as home to picturesque art studios overlooking DeShane Pond and our 15 acre Ecological Study Areas. Other natural areas on campus include the 18 acre Russell R. Kirt Prairie and a 9 acre BJ Hoddinott Wildlife Sanctuary. The college campus houses a Fuel Garden to support the Fuel Pantry, our local food pantry that provides thousands of pounds of food to our community each month.

Support:

• Selected artists will receive stipends depending on proposed timeline, not to exceed $3500, which may be used to cover materials, travel, lodging, etc. (Stipend will be partially received after the first public event, with the remainder available upon residency completion.) 
• Galley, workspace, and/or presentation space will be made available for an exhibition or presentation of work as needed.
• Access to natural areas, shared full woodshop (including bandsaws, table saw, chop saws, hand tools, MIG and TIG welding equipment), ceramic studio (gas, electric, woodfire, raku kilns, wheels), printmaking studio, digital fabrication lab (4x4’ CNC router, 3D printers, laser cutter), fashion lab (including industrial sewing machines, weaving loom, table knitting machine, embroidery machine, industrial dress forms), small metals studio, photography darkroom, alternative process lab, and lighting studio can be made available after safety training is completed providing that needs of students and class times are met first. Web presence on the Cleve Carney Museum of Art website will be provided for visiting artists.
  

Expectations:

• Artists must be able to commit to at least two continuous weeks in residence from September 2 and November 17, 2025. The applicant must list their preferred residency period in their application.
• Selected artist or artists groups will be required to give an introductory talk or workshop to a class or larger group within the first week of the residency.
• Artists are required to work, interact, or collaborate with students for a minimum of 6 hours during the residency in the form of project work, collaborations, workshops, studio visits, or other proposed events. In special circumstances some of this collaboration may be completed via zoom. 
• Artists will be required to close the residency with an event, open studio, public lecture, exhibition, or other proposed event.
• Studio and workshop spaces will need to prioritize students and class times; artists will need to work around these schedules to access certain spaces. Coordinate with faculty and staff for facility access in order to maximize the student artist collaboration.
  

Eligibility:

• Individual artists or collectives of up to three people are eligible to apply.

• Artists and collectives working in any media are eligible to apply.

• The selected artists must be able to demonstrate they are legally authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor visas at this time.

• Employees of the College of DuPage are not eligible to apply.

Selection Process:

Selection committee will be composed of students, staff, and faculty at the College of DuPage. Reviewers are asked to consider the following criteria for each application:

• Demonstrated artistic excellence and ongoing professional practice
• Alignment with residency program goals
• Strength of student and community engagement
• Feasibility with time frame, materials, budget, class alignment, and available students

• Description of contact/work with students for 6 hours or more
• Alignment with artist-in-residence program goals

• 150 word bio
• Artist Resume or CV and website
